Freelancer interest waning already?

Sad but true. I still love the game, but I haven't been playing as much because I really need to know which server we're going to be playing on, permanently.

I'm asking Nick and Josh to try and find a good server that pings well to them, has a decently large player amount (maybe like 16), and allows player damage. I want a player damage server because after I get all of the best available stuff, I wanna have some competition. The only competition I'll have is other players. Without player damage, I can't fight other players.

So yeah, you guys need to decide on a good server and then tell me, and I'll play on it. So far I've gone by a few servers that were good. Shadowlight's House of Horror was a decent server until it started lagging HORRIBLY. I'm not playing on there anymore, with that lag. I can make it to about rank 15 in about 3 hours now, so if you guys pick a server I can probably build myself up pretty fast and then just give you guys some money to catch up... I wouldn't consider that cheating. Some other people might, but I think helping out your friends isn't cheating.

I added a link to the side of the page, slashdot games. The site just came up, but it's slashdot so I'm pretty sure that it'll turn out to be an awesome games news site. Maybe not as good as Shacknews, but you never know. We'll see.

New Capcom Vs. SNK game

This time actually made by SNK I think.

Still doesn't have Andy Bogard in it.

So I'm still not interested.

Sorry guys...

To anybody that was hanging out with me (Josh is probably the only one reading this), but I was so tired last night... Yeah, I was stoned too, but I'm usually a pretty talkative guy, but I was soooo sleepy. I get tired way too fast when I wake up early. It's kind of weird, if I wake up at 7pm, I can stay up until 7am no problem. But, if I wake up a 7am, I am dead tired by the time it's 7pm. I'm convinced it's a psychological thing, when the sun starts to go down, I start getting tired. But if I wake up when the sun is already down, I don't get tired.

Weird.

Oooh, check this out. Remember when I told you about SPC files, music ripped directly from a SNES rom? Well, now they have PSF files, and they're music ripped directly from a Playstation game. They've got all of the PSX Final Fantasies up there, and a bunch of other cool stuff. YOU MUST DOWNLOAD THIS!

GTA3 Online

I downloaded the full version of GTA1 from Rockstar's website, and thought maybe there was some way to play it over the internet... I was looking for maybe some kind of mod for the game or an indy program that lets you create GTA internet games rather than private TCP/IP games, and look what I found:

GTA3:Multi Theft Auto.

I actually tried this out a few months ago, and it was pretty sucky. But, they've released like three new versions since then, and according to them, it's almost completely done. So really, this is better than what I was expecting to find. I might actually reinstall GTA3 and play it a lot more now. I've been wanting a multiplayer GTA3 since it originally came out on PC. Maybe Vice City will have mulitplayer, that would be a good reason why the're taking so fucking long to release it. They'll probably disappoint me though.

Oh yeah, and... FREELANSAR!

Obligatory Freelancer Post

I BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT I WAS GOING TO TALK ABOUT FREELANCER !!

Anyway, me and Nick got some hardcore Freelancer action going yesterday, and it was really cool. He didn't lag for like four hours, because I think the Pope stopped clogging up the Catholic internet bandwidth with his constant child pornography downloads. Maybe he was sleeping or something. Anyway, me and Nick kicked some badguys' ASSES and we made some nice chunks of cash, and bought some nice ships. Josh played yesterday and we showed him the ropes, but then he had to leave and didn't get back on until about 11:30pm, and I was soooo tired.

I'm sorry I left so early last night, guys, but I was too tired to go on. I was actually falling asleep DURING a dogfight, which isn't a good sign because I'm usually wide awake during that part. If I'm dozing off during a dogfight, imagine how fast I would pass out just cruising through space. I had to log off. I really was on my way to the New York system, Josh... I was probably more than hal-way there, but I logged off in the middle of an asteroid field in the Cortez system. When I log back on, I'll probably get attacked by a bunch of rogue fags, but my 7.5k a pop weapons will tear through them like something that can be easily torn through. Like tissue paper. Or any kind of paper really, unless there's a kind of paper that isn't easily torn... not that kind of paper. Only a kind of paper that can be easily torn. Like that.

On a much more serious note (I kind of feel bad that this is lumped with a Freelancer post), I read Tina's page while doing my daily website patrol. Her latest post (April 23rd) really caught me off guard, and I felt that I needed to post something about it... It's really fucked up what happened to you, Tina. I'm glad that you put it behind you, and I'm glad that you don't feel used up or wasted anymore, because no person should ever have to feel that way. I'm also glad that you dumped that guy and got together with Adam, because now we have another cool person that hangs out at all of our LAN parties, and cool people are cool.

So yeah...

I like Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Yaya!

Got all of the old posts up... after a lot of ctrl+c's and ctrl+v's.

Wow, 3 posts already today, and it's only 8:40AM. I wonder how many total posts I'll put up today.

All of the comments and links from the old posts are gone, sadly. You might see a lot of "click here"s in the archives, but it won't be a link. That's because I'm too lazy to add each individual link. I might re-add them all someday when I'm really bored.

Sleeping Schedule

Just woke up from a nice nap, and I think I've successfully fixed my sleeping schedule. No more waking up at 7pm anymore, now I'm gonna be waking up at 7AM!

I'm gonna start re-entering my old posts from the previous blog that crashed, I think Rocky knows what I'm talking about because he did it whis his blog. Too bad he NEVER EVER EVER NEVER NEVER EVER EVER NEVER NEVER EVER EVER EVER NERVER updates it. He was the guy whose idea it was to get movabletype on and make a blog with it, because it's so easy and fast... and now he never updates. DIRL ROKCY

Yep.

Freelancer. :(

Freelancer is so much fun online. It really is. It's almost like you're playing an MMORPG, except it doesn't have all of the people. If they added some kind of protection to keep burned copies from being able to play on the net, I think I would actually buy the game. That's a pretty rare occurrence, but Freelancer is definitely worth every penny that it costs. So good.

I just wish Nick's ISP didn't suck so bad. He's the only person that plays Freelancer with me, and his ISP is teh suck, so we can't connect to a server without him lagging really bad or lagging out completely within 20-30 mins. God I hate his ISP... dumb Catholic ISP... They just seem to do everything wrong. I mean, technically by religious law I'm a Catholic. See what I mean? I can't wait until a LAN or something, Nick's gonna bring his laptop and we're gonna use it as a DEDICATED Freelancer server at the LAN. And we're going to give the game to anybody who is interested. Hopefully a lot of people will be. If not, then me and Nick will just play because the game is awesome and even awesomer with more than one person playing.

Well, what else is there to talk about... I haven't gotten into the Planetside beta yet, and I doubt it's ever going to happen. I read somewhere that they want a minimum of 512 megs of RAM, and I only have 384 megs of ram. I guess they're going to be faggots and just not let me play. Stupid faggots. God I hate Sony and whomever is involved with making Planetside, and whomever is involved with selecting the beta test participants. I fucking hate you, beta test participant selector. You are piece of fuck, die and in hell.

I guess I should mention Mission Risk. If you like the Risk board game, you should check it out. It's pretty much Risk, except you can play it over the net with a bunch of other people. It's innocent fun, and you don't need a fucking superman ping to play it. You could probably play it on a 9600 baud modem. Downloading it would take forever though. If you wanna download it and play it with me, just toss me an AIM message and I'll host a game and we can play (and I'll probably lose because I just learned how to play Risk today).

Design...

I know you all are gonna probably not like this, but I think I'm gonna keep this design for a while. It's very practical and it's pretty nice looking. I don't think I'm going to go back to the old design, because, well... I was kind of looking forward to re-designing it. So I'll probably re-design it in the future, but I'm probably gonna keep this design until I feel like messing with it.

Hey, at least you can highlight the text now.

Posted by at 01:49 PM | Comments (2)

Heh.

You might be wondering why my blog looks like this. Well, the OEFnetwork server went down, and a lot of stuff was lost. My page was re-uploaded, and it looked fine, but that's because it was the HTML that was generated from my blog template, and not actually part of my blog template.

You see, my stylesheet referred to something called a template module, which was like a little piece of code that was separated from everything else, and then referred to whenever I needed it. The whole sidebar was a module, and I lost the code for the module when the server crashed. So, when I reloaded the stylesheet, it was still referring to the module that wasn't there, resulting in a jumbled mess of text and divs because stuff wasn't being positioned correctly and such.

So, this is my temporary design until I can recode the template module that my old style sheet refers to.

Oh yeah, and, download freelancer. You can play the pirated version over the internet, and I want to play with people.

RPGM2003

Just in case you don't know what that means, it means RPG Maker 2003.

If you don't know what RPG means, swallow something poisonous. Or sharp. Or both... be sure to take pictures too (send them to me if you're not dead yet).

Anyway, I downloaded it, and I have no idea how to use it whatsoever. But I'm going to learn, because it looks like it has a lot of potential to make a cookie-cutter SNES style RPG... I've always wanted to make one of those. It's got even more features than RPGmaker2000, like positive combat effects (haste, regen, etc.), and uhh... other stuff.

Since I have no clue how to use it yet, rather than jump right into making the game, I've started character development and plot development. I drew a few doodles on paper and created my main character. I'd scan it if I had a scanner, but I don't. I also created what will be the main villain. Or will it be? There's gonna be plot twists, baby. You're not gonna who who's really good or bad until something really good... or really bad happens. I've already thought up a basic plot also, and I would go into it, but it would take up a bunch of space to explain what I've thought up, but it's gonna be semi-unique. I'm not going to rip it directly from a Final Fantasy game, but there's probably gonna be Final Fantasy style stuff in it... I mean, that's where I get my influence from, it's hard to break off your influences.

Anyway, the style of the game is gonna be very Final Fantasy-ish. So much in fact, I'm probably going to intentionally put cliches in it, just to make fun of them. For the title of the game, I was thinking of Last Legend. Just to make fun of Final Fantasy... get it? Last... final... yeah.

I went in google to check if anybody had stolen my idea before I thought of it, and someody did. Sadly, the name is already being used by an unfunny webcomic that seems rarely updated. One that has almost nothing to do with Final Fantasy at that. So, I'm still gonna use the name. Fuck their copyright. If they can steal the picture from the FFX logo, then I can steal their name. Seems fair.

Chances are, this RPG I'm talking about will never get made, but if I figure out how to use this program, I'll definitely work on it... I need to get a scanner or access to a scanner so I can draw my own character/monster designs rather than use the built-in ones... Using somebody else's art is no fun.

Screw Planetside.

ANGER ENSUES!@!

Something I like to do on the internet is sign up for beta tests. I sign up for practically every beta that I can find, and recently I haven't been getting into ANYTHING. I didn't get into Shadowbane, even though thousands and thousands of people got in. I haven't gotten into Planetside yet, and I signed up for that THE DAY betas opened. I'm probably not going to get into the FFXI beta either. How do I know? Just my luck, really. I haven't gotten into anything lately, except for Fung Wan Online, which sucks, and Rubies of Eventide, which is SPYWARE. Screw Shadowbane, and screw Planetside.

I saw Bulletproof Monk tonight, and I liked it. It wasn't the best kung-fu movie I've seen by far, but it had its funny moments and it was generally a good fictitious kung-fu movie. The storyline got really cheezy about halfway through when the Nazis started attacking full force, and the main bad guy was just a sucky bad guy in general. It was very unrealistic, but the movie was about a mystical scroll in which the person who reads it gains absolute power over the world. In other words, I don't think realism was their main objective. I just considered it to be an Americanized kung-fu/comedy that takes place in modern times and in the US, rather than in the past and in China or Hong Kong. And I think they did a pretty good job of maintaining the surreal feeling that kung-fu movies usually have. A lot of the moves people do seem impossible. This isn't bad special effects, this was the point. Watch a good Jet Li movie like Once Upon a Time in China, and then say that all of the moves in it are physically possible. You could say it, but you would be lying.

I'm an artist.

I like Penny Arcade. It's a really funny webcomic that I often agree with. But, recently I've been realizing that Gabe, the artist, is an idiot. To be specific, his opinions are stupid. On top of that, he will never realize that some of his opinions are wrong, because of the droves of people that fellate him and his views via email. To put the cherry on top, he posts the emails that his cock suckling dick leeches send to him, as if they validate his opinion.

Gabe, if you weren't the artist for Penny Arcade, your opinions would be written off just as quickly as you are to write off others' opinions. Sad but true.

The first thing I noticed was his drawing of Samus Aran. Some people may say that I'm nitpicking too much, but he drew Samus with her helmet off, and short blonde hair. Samus doesn't have short hair. When this was pointed out to him, he said that it was his "interpretation" of Samus. Gabe, there's nothing to interpret, Samus has long hair. Ever since the first Metroid with the Justin Bailey code, Samus has been portrayed with long hair. Super Metroid? Long hair. Metroid Prime? Long hair. Nothing to interpret.

But, I guess it's okay, since Gabe is an UUUUBER gamer. I mean, come on, he likes Pac-man! Doesn't get much more uber than that.

Well, I'm an uber gamer too, so I decided to create my own "interpretation" of the video game industrie's most famous duo, the Mario Brothers. As you can see, my interpretation of Mario is the likeness of a fat bald black man with pink nipples. Luigi is a nimble asian man doing a jumpkick (what asians do best), and red boots. Why red boots? Because he can. Don't question him, or he'll kick your ass. What? It's my interpretation. That makes it okay, even if there's absolutely nothing to interpret because their appearance is clearly known by their appearance in the games.

The newest form of stupidity is his criticism of American McGee for creating not one, but TWO games based on popular stories, with a dark twist. Two games that are similar, let's criticize his creativity and call him a "one trick pony". This is just American McGee's style. This is what he does. All of the Sid Meier games are turn-based strategy games. Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and Sid Meier's Civilization 3 were basically the same fucking game. But critical acclaim ensues for Sid Meier. Or what about Tom Clancy games? They're basically all tactical SWAT style games, with the exception of Splinter Cell. Is Tom Clancy a one-trick pony because all he does is realistic tactical shooters? I think not. Fuck you, Gabe. Your opinion is worthless.

Stupid Keyboard

Got a new keyboard, but it's not ergonomic and I have to use one of those crappy wrist-rests because I'm so used to my ergonomic keyboard with the built-in wrist rest. Dumb square keyboards... It's gonna take me a while to get used to this.

Even though the keyboard is brand new, the keys feel like an old keyboard, they don't "snap" like keys are supposed to do when you press them, so sometimes I think I hit a key but it didn't register. More specifically, the "T" key really gets on my nerve, it seems like I have to hit it harder than all of the other keys for it to register. I think it's because I'm just used to tapping the T key with my index finger, but now I actually have to press it all the way down.

STARECAFAT!!1

I've been playing a lot of Starcraft lately thanks to Nick, but I think that I've been getting a lot better since my recent Starcraft binge. Given, I still play like a pussy that's afraid to rush at the beginning of the game, but I can build up a beefy defense really fast and maintain my base pretty well also. At least with Protoss and Terran, I'm still having a lot of problems developing a good defensive Zerg strategy. I got a little curious about it and looked for Zerg strats over google, and I found this site, which actually turned out to be a really good Starcraft site with lots of cool stuff on the game for EVERYBODY (total newbies, semi-experienced people, and experts). Just lots of stuff.

Welp... Don't know what else to post about right now. I've been listening to the new Cold album a lot lately, because it's really good. I've been into Cold for a few years now (since their first album came out) and I think their new album is their best.

Postal 2

Yep, I've been waiting a while for it to come out, and it's finally out and I played it for a few hours today. Overall it's a fun game that's worth playing, but it's definitely not the best FPS I have played, and it's not as good as I had hoped (mainly performance issues).

Good stuff:

Extremely violent. Moreso than any game I've ever played, basically because it's realistic violence and they take no shame in any of it.
Funny. Funny stuff happens in the game. Like at one part of the game, one of the "missions" is to go to the local church and confess your sins. Your guy says something like "Forgive me father, for I have sinned. A lot. No seriously, I've sinned a lot. Yep, lotsa sins." Then, the priest replies with, "Did you donate money to the collection box?", and the postal guy says "Yeah.", so the priest says, "Then all of your sins are forgiven. NEXT!" Immediately after that, it shows a guy in a turban outside the church run up to a group of priests and explode with fire and blood and guts and all of that. Then a whole bunch of guys in turbans start attacking the church with machine guns and stuff, yelling "I declare this holy land in the name of Allah!" and you have to shoot them and get out of the church alive. Fun stuff.
Semi non-linear. What I mean is, you don't HAVE to actually do the objectives to have fun playing the game. It's one of those games that could be compared to GTA3, where you can have more fun just running around killing people and running from/killing cops. Every review I've read on this game compares it to GTA3, but they need to realize that this is the sequel to POSTAL, which was out WAY before GTA3. It may have been out around the same time as GTA1, maybe. I remember playing the original postal over five years ago. It's just the style of the game, not a GTA3 ripoff. Faggots.
Other stuff. Some of the weapons are really cool and unique, like the gasoline can/matches. You can make a trail gasoline along the ground and then throw a lit match on it, and it will catch fire along the trail of gasoline you just poured out. You can pick up stray cats and use them as silencers for your guns. You can unzip your pants and urinate on people, cars, dogs, cats, etc. Or, you can just unzip your pants and not urinate. You can put out fires with your urine. Urine seems pretty important. Some other little stuff just makes me happy, like the way blood will flow downhill if somebody dies on a sloped surface, or the way people vomit when they see dead bodies. The game seems kind of sloppy, but there's a ton of great ideas buried in it.

Bad stuff:

There seems to be a lot of bad stuff about this game, but I really think the good stuff outweighs the bad stuff.

Unreal engine. Probably the worst engine ever created. I've expressed my feelings on the unreal engine in former posts. I don't like it, but I'll put up with it for this game.
Non-locational damage. Most modern FPS games feature locational damage, where headshots will do significantly more damage than anywhere else. This is not the case in Postal 2, where you can shoot them in the head 15 times and they'll still run around and shoot at you. It's really gay, because I'm used to aiming for the head. There's no point in aiming in this game, just make sure the bullet hits the guy. Also, the pistol seems to do way more damage than the automatic rifle (looks like an M4A1). This is wrong and should be fixed or something.
No reloading. This isn't really important, and some people may think this is a good thing, but every gun in reality requires reloading. Postal 2 doesn't have reloading, just a whole bunch of bullets and you shoot them until they're gone. If this game was like Quake or UT, this wouldn't matter. But this game prides itself on realistic violence, while the guns are unrealistic.
Difficulty. This game is HARD. There's a bunch of difficulty settings, but I refuse to play on anything lower than "normal", and "normal" is HARD. Funny thing though, the easiest difficulty is "Liebermode", and the hardest difficulty is "Hestonmode". I, personally, hate Lieberman with a passion, so I think any insult towards him is funny.
Loading times. This most likely ties into the Unreal Engine problem, but the loading times make you want to gouge your own eyes out sometimes. I yell "COME ON COM

Anyway, that's my little review on Postal 2, which is definitely worth downloading for free. I don't know if it's worth paying for, unless you are a fan of the original Postal or the GTA series (the gameplay style is vaguely similar).

Why so long?

Well, Nick let me borrow Wind Waker, then I hooked up my computer to the bigscreen television, and now I'm downloading the full version of Postal 2, which I'm probably going to be playing... ALOT. (Not "a lot", but "ALOT").

What can I say really about Wind Waker? It's probably better than I expected. There's so much to explore and there's so much to do in the game besides going straight through it. I've probably spent more time doing the side quests than playing the actual game, and I've been having a great time. My computer hooked up to the television has distracted me a little bit though, because I can now play emulators (not just NES) on the BIG SCREEN TV with my PS2 controller, and I also figured out how to hook up the sound to the stereo system so it sounds really good also. Playing Actraiser with stereo semi-surround sound on a big screen television kind of makes me feel like I'm ten years old again.

I really wish I could be ten again...

Anyway, POSTAL 2! It's downloading right now, and it seems to be only one CD, which is good because I only have one blank CD left. I can't wait to stick a gun up a cat's ass and use it as a silencer to shoot a poor elderly woman, and then urinate on her fresh corpse. Maybe I'll chop her head off with a shovel and play soccer with it too. ALL OF THIS IS POSSIBLE IN THE WONDERFUL POSTAL 2!

It's official.

This is just a little post to let everybody (who doesn't read Shacknews) know that Square is no more. They are now Square Enix. Let's hope they combine each others' talent to create even better games than they produced by themselves.

Hard Drive Fun Time!

I'm running dangerously low on space on my 30 gig hard drive, because my MP3 collection has probably more than doubled in size over the past month.

So, what I'm gonna do is take my whole mp3 collection and stick it on my new hard drive, and then re-partition my 30 gig so it's actually using all 30 gigs instead of just 20 gigs (because I partitioned 10 gigs for linux a long time ago).
Then, I can store another 50 albums or so. If it starts taking up TOO much space, I'll just stick my mp3 collection on my big hard drive. It's a nice chunk of gigabytes, though...

Now I'd like to point out the new Tomb Raider game that's coming out. I mean, it's good that they're changing the gameplay style of the game, because all of the Tomb Raider games sucked ass. But now it just looks like a Splinter Cell ripoff, and that pisses me off. Somebody needs to tell EIDOS to kill this fucking series because well... it's shitty. While they're at it, they should visit 3DO and tell them to stop with the fucking Army Men games. It's a dead horse. You're beating it.

I laughed at this site.
