Erik already covered it, but I need to point out that nintendo released their controller (clickable link JP) for the revolution, and it's got me really excited. I know that nintendo can put it to good use, and with the analog stick connected to it, it's the closest thing a console can get to a mouse and keyboard, without actually using a mouse and keyboard. The main thing they have to worry about is third party developers, most of them are lazy assholes and only want to port games from other consoles, not make something completely innovative that takes full advantage of a particular console's capabilities (look at GBA ports to DS for example).
I went to kung fu a lot this week, well as much as I could anyway. The best part is, I went in there monday all pumped up about doing it, and I managed to learn like a third of the form I'm working on, in three days. That's pretty good considering a third of the form is like 15-20 moves. I have a problem though... my arms are just too weak. My legs are like two gorillas on steroids from doing so much stance training and stuff, but I have the upper body strength about that of a fourteen year old girl. So I've decided to start strengtening my arms a bit by doing push-ups and dips. Now, dips are really fucking hard for me. Push-ups, are almost impossible for me. I cannot, trying as hard as I can, do a real, normal pushup. It sucks that I've let myself go that much, but I know that it's not too late to turn that around, so I've started by doing lots and lots of cheater pushups, where you let your knees touch the ground. as long as you keep your body straight while you're doing it, you still get the same workout in the muscles, it's just not as hard because you're not lifting as much weight. So yeah, one step at a time I guess. My goal is to eventually get my arms strong enough to do real pushups so I can start doing those. I think losing weight in my upper-body will help too, so maybe I should start *shudder* running or something. But I hate running so I think instead I'll just practice kung fu forms in my backyard. yay!
(dodging the dog poop is part of the training)
ooooh... at this rate I'll be able to test by the next test session, and you know what that means? BROADSWORDS, MO'FUCKAS. The world will be a little less safe afterwards.
Posted by Joe at September 16, 2005 03:31 AMI still have footage of you claiming to be a ninja, but a ninja with a broadsword is even more badass.
Posted by: Token at September 16, 2005 04:53 AMThat's cool Joe. Just start out slow and work yourself up. I've been keeping up with my working out, I'm lucky to have the school's gym though, they've got a lot of good equipment.
Instead of running, I do a stationary bike, less impact, and really builds up your cardio system.
That will be awesome using that weapon. I've been getting my bo staff skills on.
Posted by: JP at September 16, 2005 12:46 PMif you have the strength of a 14 year old girl then i have the strength of a 3 year old girl...i can't do a single push up
Note to self: don't piss off Joe lest I get sliced with a BROADSWORD!

Also a good way to help push through the hard part of starting to work out again is to set your reps far apart. so do like 1 rep and then wait until you are not breathing hard at all(normal breathing) and do another. The closer you put your reps the more enurance you get out of an exercise, but you should work on strength first and once you are getting comfortable, work on endurance. Creatine helps a ton with endurance btw. I am up to 4 reps of 50 push-ups now, and i am going to up my number per rep soon i think.
