What are you up to besides work?
Posted by: JP at November 12, 2004 11:01 AMNot much... kung fu, been playing WoW the past couple days, and truthfully, I'm not really that impressed with it. I probably just need to get past the early levels and the "menial task" quests. So far though, Human Paladin has been my favorite race/job. Least favorite is probably NightElf/Warrior. I don't like the night elf starting place.

Posted by: Token at November 14, 2004 02:09 AMDamn, Ol' Dirty Bastard died. That sucks.
Posted by: Yeti at November 15, 2004 12:05 AMThat's too bad Joe. At least you enjoyed it while it lasted.
I thought you were on the WoW bandwagon..it's okay I just wish the beta was a little longer. If I could max my leathercraft I'd be satisfied lol. I should probably try a raid later since it's the only thing I haven't done yet.
Posted by: Adam at November 17, 2004 11:52 PMI was just expecting WoW to be extremely awesome and "revolutionize the MMORPG genre" like so many people have said that it would, but the fact is that WoW really doesn't throw anything new on the table, it's just another MMORPG with Blizzard's brand on it. It's fun enough to get me to buy it, but I can't guarantee how long I'll be playing it... As long as I don't have to camp shit for hours just for a single item, I'll be pretty happy though.
And on that note, people have told me that every MMORPG has occasions where you have to camp shit, and that's true, but not in the extreme that FFXI does it. Low supply and high demand is one thing, but making it mandatory to camp a certain monster with a very low drop rate on the item you want, just to get past a certain level, is a totally different thing. Square's "force the player to waste more time than necessary on our game so we ultimately make more money" tactics are shady at best. The last time I played FFXI was when I had to camp for 2 hours, competing with level 60+'s, just to get the ghelsba chest key, so my friend could go to kazham, if that says anything. I was level 50 because I hadn't done the genkai quest, which is yet another excuse square makes to waste time so they ultimately make more money.
Posted by: joe at November 19, 2004 08:01 AMI'll agree the NM camping is harsh, but the genkai quests weren't really that bad in hindsight. Although the more and more I think about it FFXI is totally different than most of their other RPGs. The most glaring thing to me is in the other games I actually feel strong and can take care of myself but in FFXI you feel very weak compared to the world of monsters. That's an aspect I've really started to dislike more and more. I'm just rambling, nevermind.
