ED209

The current political situation kind of reminds me of the movie Robocop, the scene where they're demonstrating ED209, the battlemech-ish security droid. In the movie, somebody is told to pick up a gun to demonstrate ED209's reaction to some hoodlum wielding a gun.

ED209's mechanical voice says, "Drop the weapon, you have ten seconds to comply." Then, it starts to count down from ten... Around five, the guy drops the gun, expecting to be safe and the countdown to stop. But, ED209 continues the countdown, and when he's finished, guns down the guy that dropped the gun five seconds ago and posed no threat whatsoever. Of course, ED209 had a valid excuse, technical malfunction.

Now, the US is ED209, and is counting down for Iraq. Even after Iraq complies, the countdown still continues. I wonder what's going to happen at the end of the countdown, and what the excuse is going to be. Human beings don't get the luxury of blaming their idiocy on technical malfunction. One of the White House guys said, "Maybe this is the mother of all distractions." Yeah, nothing is more distracting than compliance. I thought the whole point of this was to get them to disarm. Now that they're disarming, what are we getting distracted from?

Perhaps the whole process is a ruse, in order to make people not think that our current leader in office is an un-checked warmonger. It's easy to do what you want after a large-scale terrorist attack, because opposing it makes you "unpatriotic". And nobody wants to be unpatriotic, because un-patriotism is the modern day equivalent of what communism was fifty years ago.

In other news, my waterbed popped. Dammit. And my hard drive is making really loud noises sometimes when it loads stuff, and the whole computer hangs when it's doing it. It scares me.
