So, as most have you have noticed in the past few months gas has continued to reach new peaks past any price any of us have ever seen. Last night while I was going to Walmart, I noticed that one gas station had gas for 2.97, gas had just gone up 30 cents. Luckly walmarts gas station still had gas for 2.70 somthing, so I filled up, cost 50 dollars. IT COST 50 DOLLARS FOR 1 WEEK OF GAS!! THIS IS BEFORE THE 30 CENT PRICE RISE!! Something needs to be done, and Bush needs to do it, this is so fucking nuts.

It's speculators saying what the price of oil should be, and with that price raised (especially with New Orleans trashed, a major major port where oil comes in (about 25%, i think, of the nations import point)) it gives the gas companies an exuse to rise the price immeaditly.
The other problem with the Hurricane being, not only several refineries shutting down, but offshore oil rigs having to shut down until the storm passed, and whether those rigs are still there or not.
Oil is a limited resource, and humans, especially Americans, don't put enough value on it, and just use use use. Fortunatly, with the price per barrel going up so high, it will allow companies to put money into alternative sources, as it will be economically reasonable now.

And after I posted this, I think Erik informed me that he is going to allow use of our reserves. So yay.
I also agree that the positive thing about this is the push of new technologies and not just our current ones, we are in dire need for new resorces, some of that hydro-fusion suff that I read about in Highschool. Something where the engines out put is water, some kind of cell thingy, i dont remember.
Cant wait to move to norman and buy a bike!

The technology is there, but it's not exactly proven and we don't have an infrastructure to distribute hydrogen. There is also the matter of the petroleum companies trying to stay relevant in the face of changing technology, but most of them just fight the change.
Maybe we'll switch after all the oil is used up, of course then it'll be too late.

In addition, if that came about for cars, there would still be many transportation devices that wouldn't be switching over anytime soon, especially big boat shipping and airplanes.
