24 Is Good

Tuesday, January 25th, 2005

Last nights episode of 24 was wonderful. They tied together the shit they started at the beginning of the season and they explained what was going on with the briefcase and such. I like where this season is going and I can’t wait to see how it ends.

In other news the Oscaar nominees are up so be sure to go check out the list. Sadly I have not seen anything on the best picture list for this year so I need to play catch-up it looks like.

Baird and I hit it up last night in WoW, had some good times and I made quite a bit of progress, it was great to actually level and turn in some quests once again. Hopefully that trend will continue the rest of this week.

Life is peachy at the apartment, all of the bills are coming up and it looks like I am going to sail through just fine and dandy, hooraj.

Please remember to thank the government when filing your taxes since they were kind enough to through 1,000 back at me. Yay.

I am scared of water

Friday, January 21st, 2005

The washing machine decided to dump all of its water onto the floor this evening. We just finished mopping some of it up out of the carpet and am about to goto bed. I don’t know what is going to happen but I am slightly concerned because we don’t have renter’s insurance and I don’t know if any water leaked behind us or not into someone elses apartment. I guess we will find out in the morning and I will be sure to keep everyone up to date.

Gonna cross my fingers that this won’t cost anything.

omg close your blinds

Everyone has to watch this, classified as not work safe.

Crazy video.

Firewire Cable!

Friday, January 14th, 2005

The firewire cable came in from newegg this afternoon. I quickly hooked it up and followed the directions from avsforum on howto record hdtv and watch it live.

Here are some example screencaps of quality without it being tweaked yet, just how it looks when i fire it up.

HD Discovery Channel
Family Guy on Adult Swim

Pretty tasty eh? Whenever we get a HTPC built if we really want we can stream the cable box content across the LAN to anyone we want to using VLC, pretty hot stuff.

Right now its mostly useless but if we want to record some hdtv content we have a way to do it right now — unfortunately a 1 hour show in HD is about 7500 mb =(.

I finally have a weekend, expect to see me working on some web stuffs and leveling up in WoW. Have a great weekend everyone.

Moved In

Wednesday, January 12th, 2005

Well it looks like all of the boxes are unpacked. It is nice that I can finally see all of the floor in my room now without having to step over boxes as I go to bed. Everyone is welcome to swing by and check the place out if you are the curious type, just drop me a call and I will give you directions.

Things at work have slown down drastically — it’s so slow I find myself quite bored at work.

We did recieve our first cable bill and it was only 90 bucks so that isn’t bad for the service we are getting, however our next bill should have the cable modem on it and the installation fees.

I hope everyone enjoys the return to school, especially as some of you enter the home stretch, hooraj for no more school soon! Time to cook some lunch and get ready for work…

Hooray for Cable!

Wednesday, January 5th, 2005

Cable man came today, I have access to the rest of the world again. Yay.

Turns out we got a plain HD box, no pvr functionality built in, no biggie. The back has a firewire port which will allow me to run it to a computer to record anything i want to off SD or HD digital channels, sweet! I am 99% sure that the pay per view stuff is encrypted and I can’t record that, oh well. It’s good to be back in touch and I hope everyone is enjoying the last bit of their break. Be careful if you are traveling in town today, looks like the roads are getting icy.

WoW tonight, lots of it.

Better Late Than Never…

Tuesday, January 4th, 2005

Been through quite a bit since my last update so I am going to try and get everyone up to speed.

I have moved the majority of my possessions except for my computer to my new residence. After a long process of moving I am really glad to have this over with — took us almost 4 days to move everything =( =(.

Truck died, but Matt and I repaired it. Turns out the ignition module which was replaced about 2 and half years ago died again, 60 bucks this time instead of 280 like last time, hooray for doing stuff yourself.

We do not get digital tv reception OTA at the apartment so we are subscribing to HD digital cable from Cox here in town, I will let everyone know how that works out.

Max is gone to Iraqi now and should return in three months. We all have our fingers crossed that they will not extend his duty term while he is there and we will see him before the summer starts.

Overall I am glad to finally have my own place, the place looks really great and everyone should swing by and check it out. We are fortunate to have new carpet and tile as it makes the place look quite a bit nicer.

It’s almost 5 am and i should probably drive back home now to sleep, hopefully I will have internet there soon — like today or tomorrow.
