The hotel room is reserved for quakecon ‘07. Signup is March 2 @ 8pm CST @ www.quakecon.org.
OK dudes, Quakecon is August 3-6, and we’re going. We will only have to pay for gas/food/room/parking because there is no entry fee to the convention. If you’ve never been before it’s a BYOC (Bring your own computer) LAN fest with crazy FPSing and file sharing to the max. If you are interested in going it is super important to sign up for a spot at the BYOC (space is limited this year because of a change in venue). Go to quakecon.org right now and make a login to the site and before 8pm CST tomorrow get a list of all the brands/colors/descriptions of the stuff you’re bringing. Here’s an example of what I’ll be bringing:
Black tower Case w/blue led fan controller and 2 DVD drives
17″ Black Dell LCD Monitor
Black/dk blue Logitech mouse
Black logitech keyboard
Black 8port cyberpower powerstrip
Blue/grey logitech headset
Black everglide mousepad
Once you have all that stuff, be ready to sign up at 8pm CST Wednesday. Last year there were about 3000 people in the BYOC and this year there is only room for 1800. We should be fine, I already reserved our hotel room, so we’ll have somewhere to stay. If you’re considering going, plz sign up.
Just talked to white james and he thinks you can change your stuff after you sign up. So you may not need to list all your crap right away. The most important thing it to be at your computer at 8pm ready to hit F5 a bunch so you can sign up for the BYOC. If you can’t be at your computer because of work or something else beyond your control (e.g. no WoW) then let james or I know and we can sign up for you. You need to make an account and give us your login and pass.
So yeah, I’ll start this post like I start every other post; I’m a horrible person who doesn’t post and keep his friends informed of goings-on in his life. Oh well maybe I’ll change and not be lazy and post every day like a good boy. You know I won’t so I’ll try to make it worth your time when you actually do read this thing.
This weekend Tara and I went to Tulsa to have lunch with my mom like we do every few weeks. Just as we were about to enter Tulsa proper we heard a pop and my front drivers side wheel was flat. I made it to the side of the ‘pike without incident and proceeded to change the flat. The difficulty of the procedure was aggrivated a bit by the fact that the lug nuts that I have for my custom wheels barely stick out far enough to get any grip on with the tire iron. The 90ish degree temp at noon, and no wind except for the cars whizzing by didn’t help much either.
After a delightful lunch at Red Lobster Tara and I went to the Hibdon Tires Plus to see if my tire would be covered under warranty. I talked to the dudes at the counter and they determined that the tire had gone flat enough to start running with most of the weight on the sidewall and that had weakened it enough to not be able to hold the remaining pressure. The thing is my tire was almost flat for god knows how long and I didn’t fucking notice. The reason for this is I run 205/40R16 tires with very stiff sidewalls that almost act like runflats so I didn’t notice any of the typical signs of tires being low (noise, sagging, vibrations through the wheel, etc.) I’m completely to blame because there was one glaring symptom that I’m ashamed to admit has been going on for over a month. My MPG normally hovers around the 30 mark, depending on how much ledfooting I do compared to serene highway cruising. Well, for the last month or more I’ve been getting more in the neighborhood of 24MPG. I shrugged off the evidence to rounding errors or more than normal city driving or whatever. The main point is my car was telling me it was broken and I didn’t even fucking pay attention to it. I am shamed…
To continue with my story, we limped from the tire store to my dad’s in BA so I could put on all 4 factory wheels/tires, because I wasn’t comfortable with a) putting on just one on and going all the way back to OKC, and b) the difficulty I encountered changing the flat on the highway was a good lesson; I will NOT put those aftermarket wheels back on unless I get nuts that can be changed with relative ease. Even in the relatively calm environment of my dad’s garage One of the wheels just wouldn’t come off. Luckily a friend of a friend had a much better tire iron than my Wal-Mart special so I was in luck.
Well, we’re back in OKC safe and sound and I’ve got a shiny new tire pressure gauge that will hopefully get some use if I actually learned anything from my little endeavor.
Keep ‘er in the paint crew and I hope I’ll talk to you again real soon.
Oh, maybe tomorrow I’ll tell you all about the great times with Tara’s cat…
Powweb moved us and some of the website broke, but James is awesome and fixed it. Also upgraded my wordpress. I’ll have a real post about my weekend shortly.
Hey there friends! Greetings from Maui! I finally found wifi (I’m out on my 7th floor lanai) and boy am I happy. Tara and I are having a blast here. We got married Friday evening about 6pm (11pm CST). It was a pretty cool ceremony and we got the whole thing on video. Everyone who comes to our wedding reception (Saturday May 6th), will get to see it. Hopefully I have time to do a little editing when I get home.
Yesterday we drove to Hana on the far east side of Maui. The road was kinda fun (if it weren’t for the other cars), since it was all twisty, but it was also kinda scary because it was one lane in lots of places and had lots of blind corners where you could hit another car. We really hated Hana, because it was like any shitty small town in Oklahoma. Not just small, fucking super small. Like they only have 3 restaurants and 1 of them was down for renovation. The one we ended up picking was really slow and the food was expensive and tasted like shit. How hard is it to get a burger and fries right? While we were on the east side of the island we went to the 7 Sacred Pools, which was kinda cool but the water was cold and the rocks were sharp. We definitely drove faster on the way back just so we could get that place over the horizon.
Well, that’s it for me for now. I’ve gotta shower and get ready for a luau tonight. Aloha!
This movie (scroll down to see trailer) seems like a made-to-order cult classic. I can’t even understand why Samuel L Jackson would be in it. Either he has a better sense of humor than I think or they drove a dumptruck full of money up to his Palacial Hollywood EstateTM. I guess it does look better than The Man.
Yesterday was St. Patrick’s day, and we celebrated by eating lil smokies (might not have anything to do with Irish tradition) and getting wasted. Irish car bombs don’t taste bad, but I have the worst hangover of my life right now. I also vaguely remember chugging a bottle of Jägermeister.
Everyone send some good vibrations south to JP in Brazil while he’s spreading the gospel with roundhouse kicks. See you guys later!
I gave up on SaturdayNight Live a few years ago, but they can still produce some funny shit. Like this video of Natalie Portman rapping up a storm.
